Bavington Confident Ahead of Return

Ok. So on 19 May at the Holte Suite, Villa Park on a great Saturday night’s worth of boxing, on the same bill that saw Ryan Kelly grab the Midlands Area Superwelterweight Title, Wolverhampton’s Kirsty Bavington made her professional debut in an undercard bout against the hard boiled Bulgarian veteran, Borislava Goranova.

Kirstie Bavington vs. Borislava Goranova

It was a tough gig.

Goranova put up a stubborn resistance and went on to grab her 3rd draw in 68 fights.

A disappointed Bavington told BBC’s Dexter Hastings after the fight,

“Obviously I could have done better. I didn’t do half as well as I should. I didn’t throw any combos that I should have. But, you know , it’s my first one out the way, at least it’s a draw and not a loss. I just need to keep going, keep trying, keep learning. Just carry on.”

She returns to the ring in confident mood just 50 days later –  on the forthcoming undercard of BCB Promotions’ ‘Usual Suspects’ Edition at The Venue in Dudley on 7th July.

Bavington told MBC;

“I’m fit and raring to go for a big local show. Me and the lads have been training hard in camp with Coaches Richie Ghent and Rob Wright.

“Off the back of my pro debut I’m looking to get my win out the way on 7th and nothing’s stopping me this time. I feel confident and excited for the next stage of my career.”

And on the focus of her training the boxer said she was looking to ‘go forward more, move around the ring  and pick my shots better.’

Bavington’s well anticipated return to action only adds to an already intriguing and exciting landscape that we can see developing on the Women’s boxing scene across the region.

We’ve already seen this year, the likes of Aldridge’s Rachael Ball and Willenhall’s Lauren Johnson extend their win records.

Johnson came back from a torrid first round to dominate the remaining rounds of their 8 round contest and seal a great victory over Hungary’s Klaudia Vigh when they faced off for the International Challenge Middleweight Title on 9th June

-Whilst a fired up Rachel Ball moved to 3-0-0 with her comprehensive win against Monika Antonik on 4th May.

It’s already a fact that women’s Boxing is on the up in the region and it certainly looks like there is better to come.

A win for Bavington on 7th July will simply underline that.
