Down & Out!! Sangha suffers stunning 3rd round stoppage!!

Indi Sangha gets counted out at Villa Park

Midlands southpaw prospect Indi Sangha found himself on the wrong end of a stunning third round stoppage when he was counted out by referee Kevin Parker at the Holte Suite last Saturday night (30 Jun).

The non-title Super Featherweight contest had been scheduled for 8 rounds but Michael Ramabeletsa finished it surprisingly early with a devastatingly sharp and accurate punching and counter-punching display.

The defeat will come as a huge blow to the Sangha camp and brings to an emphatic end a run of nine straight professional wins for the Birmingham based boxer who is also known for his explosive punch power.

There will of course be a notion that Ramabeletsa with his record of 15-17-0 was underestimated. It has merit given that the former Soweto native’s last two outings saw him challenging for the English Super Bantamweight and Commonwealth (British Empire) Super Bantamweight Titles but in a June 14 interview with VIP Boxing Promotions the Preston based boxer also admitted to knowing very little about his forthcoming opponent in Sangha.

In truth it was a painful watch for Midlands fight fans, especially for those convinced that Sangha has that special something that can take him all the way.  On this occasion the 22 year old couldn’t seem to find either the range or accuracy that he needed and was in trouble from as early as the first round when a sharp combination gave just a small taste of what Sangha was to suffer a couple of rounds later.

Early knockdown and Sangha looks stunned

There were some concerns as Sangha returned to his corner having been counted out at the conclusion of the fight. It took some time for the announcements to be made as, quite rightly, attention was given to the fighter’s wellbeing above all else before the event could proceed. But it was an emboldened and clearly gracious fighter that stood to accept his defeat when the two eventually returned to the centre of the ring for the announcements.

As in football, form comes and goes but class remains. Despite the loss Sangha remains a classy fighter with a great future ahead. He will be back.
